OpenRA – Command & Conquer: Red Alert
OpenRA is een gratis Open Source/Libre RTS (Real Time Strategy) game gebaseerd op het spel Command & Conquer: Red Alert.
Het originele spel dateert uit 1996 en is gemaakt door Westwood Studios. Tijdens de release van Red Alert 3 had EA besloten om Command and Conquer: Red Alert als freeware vrij te geven.
OpenRA is gemaakt een kopie van het originele spel en wordt nog steeds actief doorontwikkeld.
Zo worden in OpenRA onder andere moderne beelscherm resoluties ondersteund en kan er ook cross-platform tegen elkaar worden gespeeld. Ook bevat OpenRA standaard vele nieuwe units die bij het originele spel pas later werden toegevoegd in onder andere de uitbreidingspakketten “Counterstrike” en “The Aftermath”.
Naast multiplayer zijn er uiteraard ook singleplayer missies beschikbaar. Ook kun je het in skirmish mode opnemen tegen computergestuurde tegenstanders.
Het spel is beschikbaar op Windows, OS X en vele Linux distributies.
Naast C&C: Red Alert bevat OpenRA ook C&C Tiberian Dawn ( de allereerste Command & Conquer), en Dune 2000.
